At the recent NASCAR Champions Gala in North Carolina, Andy Seuss was awarded the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour Most Popular Driver award. The award was determined by online fan voting throughout the season.
And while Seuss' many fans were no shocked at his selection, the driver of the #47 Advance Auto Parts / Q Racing Oils Modified sure was.
“That was pretty amazing, I never thought that I'd be up for an award like that,” said Seuss. “We drive down each weekend from New Hampshire to drive for Riggs Racing and then we go home to work. I'm not around a lot to get to meet new fans and visit with old ones down South. But we do have plenty of opportunities at the track with NASCAR organizing autograph sessions and Advance Auto Parts bringing their customers
to the track. I'm not down there much, but I try to keep in touch with everyone through our Facebook page and website, so I guess that in return for that, the fans voted for me. I can't thank them enough.”
Many award winners claim to be surprised when they are honored for something, but Seuss has a story about going up to get his award that proves he's telling the truth.
“I didn't even have my tux jacket on when they called my name,” said Seuss. “I threw it on and had to rush up there. Actually, Ted Christopher [who was voted as the Most Popular Driver on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour] had to tell me to fix my collar before they took pictures of us.”
In addition to finishing second in the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour standings, Seuss also kept busy with a limited scheduled of NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, True Value Modified Racing Series and open-show Modified races. He collected a total of five victories during the 2009 season.
